AbstractCarwash wastewater contains many materials that can increase the concentration of COD, turbidity, oil and grease in water body causing environmental pollution. Many technologies have been studied to treat carwash wastewater such as coagulation flocculation, tricking filter and flocculation-flotation. However, those treatment processes are not optimally eliminate oil and small organic compounds. Ultrafiltration membranes were used in this study to treat carwash wastewater. The purposes of this experiment were to know the membrane performance that show in flux and rejection of COD, turbidity, oil and grease, and also to know the optimal operation condition of ultrafiltration membranes in treating carwash wastewater. Polysulphone (PS) membranes and cross-flow operation were used with pressure of 1 bar, 2 bar, 3 bar. According to the result of experiment, the highest rejection was obtained from PS50 in 1 bar operation with 96,38% rejection of turbidity, 80,33% rejection of COD, and 92,31% rejection of oil and grease. While PS100 membranes in 1 bar pressure operation was the optimal condition because the result has high rejection, high flux and low cost and energy in operation.
