ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan melalui pendekatan Whole Language pada anak kelompok A TK Siwi Peni XI tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, masing-masing siklus mencakup tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Hasil penelitian melalui pendekatan Whole Language dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan pada anak kelompok A TK Siwi Peni XI Surakarta Tahun Ajaran 2013/2014.Kata kunci: Kemampuan Membaca Permulaan, Pendekatan Whole LanguageABSTRACT This study aims to improve the ability of beginning reading through Whole Language approach for kindergarten children of group A in TK Siwi Peni XI Surakarta academic year 2013/2014. This classroom action research is implemented in two cycles. Each cycle includes the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results of the research through the Whole Language approach can improve the ability of beginning reading in kindergarten children of group A in TK Siwi Peni XI Surakarta in Academic Year 2013/2014.Keyword: Ability of Beginning Reading, Whole Language Approach
