TINJAUAN KEKUATAN LENGKUNG PAPAN SERAT SABUT KELAPA SEBAGAI BAHAN TEKNIK

Indonesia is the second biggest coconut producer in the world. Coconut fibre can be process to be coir (fibre) as use in fibreboard. Aim this research has to know usability coconut fibreboard as engineering material with hand lay-up method. Coconut fibreboard was made with long and short coir and used phenol formaldehyde as bonding element. Static bending, and edge screw holding testing has been done. The results as general unnecessary to fulfil the MDF standard (National Particle Board Association, 1994). This coconut fibreboard was classified in High Density (r > 8 g/mm3). The short coconut fibreboard has MOR = 1,462 kg/mm2 (MDF: > 3,45 kg/mm2), MOE = 203,9106 Kg/mm2 (MDF: > 345 kg/mm2), edge screw holding = 171.6 kg (MDF: > 133,5 kg) and the long coconut fibreboard has MOR = 1,692 kg/mm2 (MDF: > 3,45 kg/mm2), MOE = 252,6558 Kg/mm2 (MDF: > 345 kg/mm2), edge screw holding = 226 kg (MDF: > 133,5 kg). The long coconut fibreboard has better than the short coconut fibreboard. Even unnecessary as engineering material, coconut fibreboard has higher edge screw holding which can be use as table or household else without heavy load. Keywords: Fiber Board, Coconut Fiber, Flexural Strength
