By The Older People Integrated Health Post under the supervision of health centers, the traditional medicines from medicinal plants could be taught to older people to have benefit for self medication. The use of herbal medicine is prioritized to treat diseases that often occur among older people. This study aimed to enhance the knowledge and use of herbal plants as traditional medicines for older people. Data were collected by training with modul, practice, and talkative. The training were done on June 2007 in Surabaya. The respondents were 29 older persons from Kelurahan Medokan Ayu and Kelurahan South Krembangan, Surabaya city. Pre and post test were done on the knowledge. and practice of use of herbal medicine.The post test on knowledge was done soon after the training, meanwhile the post on practice were done three months after the training. Results showed there was an improvement of knowledge after the training for herbal medicine identification (a= 0.00), advantages of herbal medicine, to treat diseases and how to make traditional medicines (a= 0.04). Moreover, after training the respondents who take advantage of traditional medicinese and variety of herbal medicine are raised. Key words: older people, herbal medicine, training
